When Do We Need A Database For Our App?

Each time a new user logs into the client, the Virtual Machine forces the user to authenticate with the Agentry Server. To do this, a user must verify the connection they're using to access the machine on which the Agentry Server resides. Information pertinent to logon is then saved in the Agentry.

To verify this, we closed the Agentry client, and removed the handheld from the docking cradle. The Agentry client was then launched again.

Though username and password were still required to access the application, there was no longer a need to access the Agentry Server on the second try. This feature seemed advantageous since the infrastructure doesn't rely on an "always on" server connection to access critical information. Collision Management Since backend data can change between a field representative's synchronization periods with the server, it's possible they may not always have the most up-to-date data on their handheld. This could result in a situation where a salesperson adds information to an order that has already been shipped.

Agentry 3. Our rule most basically said that if the date of the order amendment occurs after the shipping date, a new order is generated and disseminated to the client. As a test we closed an order in the database by assigning it a shipping date in the past, and then attempted to amend that order using our handheld. Upon synchronization of the client application a new order was generated by the Agentry Server and added to the database, as well as communicated to our handheld where it first appears in the connection script and then as the latest order on the client GUI.

Adding A Connection With Using Perl we published the data to the Agentry Server and the development was complete. All that remained was accessing the server using our handheld to pull down the new information to the client. Once the client was synchronized with the Agentry Server via its docking cradle, the new option was automatically installed on the client.

From the Connection drop-down menu, "Wireless Lan" the name we chose while creating the connection was a new choice at the bottom of the menu. To test our newly developed connection we took the handheld out of its cradle, and attempted to connect to the Agentry Server. It worked perfectly. We installed and began testing the application before realizing that the application and database were not reflecting any of the changes being made in the Agentry Workbench.

A call to Syclo revealed that Perl was necessary to publish information to the Agentry Server.
